Pushpanjali is the sacred habit of offering flowers to the Gods and Goddesses as a sign of reverence. It comprises two words: Pushpa, which means flower, and Anjali, which means to give. A significant number of flowers must be kept before the sacred statues to carry out this procedure. Poodukai, a specific ceremonial artifact, is made for this purpose. Special mantras are recited during the ritual. This brass Poodukai is a semi-flattened jar with a handle that runs from side to side. The body is embellished with jaal work. The image of Om at the center of the basket enhances the sacred image of the object. This is a critical ceremonial item that allows devotees to hold flowers and other essential materials of ritual while worshipping in peace and comfort.
