The auspicious one and one of the principle deities of Hinduism is a major form within the Trimurti as ‘The Destroyer’. Mostly lord Shiva is depicted in a sitting posture in lalitasana or in meditation, but this one shown here is one of his rarely found postures, where he is standing and granting a boon of fearlessness to his devotees. Shiva is a representation of body with life and motion and realising this consciousness leads to ultimate bliss.
As shown here, Mahadeva is depicted as white, from the ashes of corpses smeared on his body and a smiling face in confidence of his success. He holds a kamandalu in the left hand and a soberly decorated damru and trishula respectively in the rear hands. Along with the other precious jewels and Rudraksha mala, he adorns the Vasuki naga (snake), coiled around his neck as an ornament symbolizing fearlessness and power and some other on his feet. This Chaturbhuja sculpture is carved out of a single piece of marble in absolute fineness of curves, expressions and the divine aura.
This short length tiger skinned dhoti wrapped around his waist is symbolic of the victory of the divine force over animal instincts; he carries the crescent moon on his head and river Ganga flows out from the top of the matted hair. This is not an ordinary Shiva sculpture, as the sculptor has played an amazing contrast of colors in golden, brown and the lines defined in red over the pure white surface. Not only this, zoom in to the face to admire the deep intensity and realism of his eyes and the beautiful Shaivite tilak along with third eye of wisdom on his forehead. Having this sculpture in your temple will enhance the charm and auspiciousness of the place.
How to clean and maintain marble statues?
Marble has been a preferred material for sculptors and artists for more than a thousand years. It is a rock that undergoes metamorphism which causes recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. Marble comes in various colors, designs, and dimensions. Pure white marble is the most preferred type of marble for making sculptures and statues since time immemorial. White marble is especially used for sculpting stone monumental sculptures since ancient times. The natural shine and luster of the carbonate crystals of white marble give a lavish and beautiful appearance to the statue.
Marble stone statues are highly durable and can even withstand harsh weather conditions without getting corroded, therefore, they can be kept indoors or outdoors without getting damaged or weathered. Although these statues can last for many decades, their regular care and cleaning are essential to increase their longevity and beautiful appearance.
Marble statues need periodical cleaning to maintain their flawless look. However, harsh and deep cleaning can result in making the statue look dull. If your marble statue is withering away, it is recommended to take the help of a professional cleaner. Marble is a delicate material and therefore needs proper care.
