She is known by many names such as Sharda, Shatarupa, Bharti, Vedanta, Brahmi, etc. In Hindu mythology, Devi Saraswati is the wife of God Brahma. Many Hindus believe that humankind was born from Manu who was the son of Brahma and Saraswati. She is also credited as the creator of the Sanskrit language. As per stories mentioned in Padma Purana as well as in Skanda Purana, Devi Saraswati was the personification of the Saraswati river, which is a symbol of purity and known as 'Dev Nadi' (Divine River). The exquisite masterpiece is carved out artistically from the famous black stones found in Mahabalipuram in southern part of India. In this statue, Devi is shown with four hands. She is holding a lotus flower in her upper right hand while her lower right hand is in Abhay Mudra. She holds a Veena, a musical instrument, in her upper left hand which is resting against her leg. Her lower left hand is holding the Vedas, the primary source of knowledge for humankind. She is sitting in her usual posture on a lotus flower. This lightweight statue of Devi Saraswati should be kept facing west or southwest direction and is perfect for use in either home or workplace.
