Wearing a short dhoti with tassels flowing off in both directions, Hanuman ji here treads effortlessly over mountains, carrying Bhagawan Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders.

This particular episode occurred when the two brothers were looking for Sita ji in the forest and came across Hanuman disguised as a brahmin. Later Hanuman ji revealed his true form and offered to carry them over his shoulders to meet the monkey king Sugreeva. There purpose of this meeting was to forge a strategic alliance between Sugreev and Bhagawan Rama wherein Rama would help Sugreeva to get his kingdom back who in turn would help Rama look for his wife Sita.

Thus does Hanuman spring along joyfully, not only having found God Himself but also having received an opportunity to serve Him.

The highlight of the composition is the fact that even the small figures of Rama and Lakshmana have been rendered skilfully, with sharp facial features and a divine, inward looking demeanour.

The life-like mountain, Hanuman’s attractive jewellery, the Kirtimukha holding together his dhoti ending well above his knees, his heavy earrings, all of these point to the accomplished hands of a master craftsman.

This sculpture was created at Swamimalai in Tamil Nadu, using the cire-purdue or wax casting method. This complex method has been used extensively since ancient times for the creation of exceptional bronze statues.
