Lord Murugan's copper Seval Kodi Flag signifies the triumph of good over evil. The roots of the flag may be traced back to Lord Murugan's victory against Soorapadman, a demon who, together with his brothers Simhamukha and Tarakasura, captured the three worlds. When Soorapadman faced Lord Murugan in battle, he saw he couldn't win, so he transformed into a mango tree. Lord Murugan sawed the tree in half, knowing the demon's ambitions. The two fragmented halves reunited instantaneously into a robust rooster and a peacock. Lord Muruga afterward selected the peacock as his chariot and the rooster as his flag.
