This Shiva Linga is a carved black, glossy stone image of Lord Shiva from Mahabalipuram. The cylindrical or elliptical pillar (the Linga) is put within a circular base (the Yoni). A serpent is wrapped around the Linga. The black stone represents the cosmic darkness from which all creation returns. The Linga represents Shiva's formless, everlasting nature, whereas the Yoni represents divine feminine energy, typically connected with Shakti, the creative power. Devotees venerate the Shiva Linga as a symbol of oneness, transcendence, and the cycle of creation and destruction, hoping for blessings, emancipation, and spiritual enlightenment.
