Lord Vishnu resides in Kshirsagar, also known as Thirupaarakadal (the ocean of milk), where he rests on a bed made of the many coils of Adi sheesha's body. Since the earliest Vaishnava sanctuaries, people have made and worshipped images of Vishnu on Shesha with his spouse Lakshmi as a sign of his eternal presence in the cosmic ocean of existence, swimming on its waves and nurturing the lives of his devotees.
In this superfine brass statue, Vishnu and Lakshmi on the coils of Adishesha are depicted with an aesthetic richness that marvels the eyes and heart. Shaded by the coils of Shesha, Sri Vishnu majestically sits, relaxing against a bolster and extending his lotus feet towards Sri Lakshmi. With finesse, the waves of Ksheersagar and the coils of Shesha are beautifully delineated. Sculpted in a rounded manner, this statue captures the beauty of Vishnu’s abode divinely.
