This momentous episode was first initiated on the behest of Mataji, by her husband, Late Shri Ganesh Bal, popularly known as Anna Ji. Despite various problems, by the grace of God, Annaji's Sankalpa has been, finally fulfilled on this auspicious day of Guru Purnima, the 31st of July, 1996. This could not have been possible without the Blessing of Swami Sivananda Saraswati and Mataji, and the active participation of many sadhaks across this country. Language being a barrier, references from the original Marathi book, which were facilitated by Shrimati Kunda Oke and Shrimati Pragya Patwardhan in Hindi, played a very vital role. However the basic ground for the translation was created from the Hindi version of the Book - Kisi Ek ki Sadhan Gatha - (Translated by Shri Dushyant kumar). However, continuous encouragement from Mataji herself has been the driving force for everybody to accomplish this task.
We the devotees of Mataji thank God, Swamiji and Mataji for their blessings and also all those who participated directly and indirectly in the process of getting this book published. They also pray to the Supreme Being to grace those readers who read this book to get initiated onto this path.
Kona Ekachi Sadhangatha, the original Marathi book by H. H. Yog Yogeshwari Malati Devi Bal (popularly known as Mataji mother) was actually a compilation of her spiritual experiences published in the magazine Sant Kripa under the above heading, which meant The saga of a spiritual seeker. The earnest demand of the avid readers to know this 'seeker' in person, compelled Mataji to reveal Her identity and the writing were compiled and published in the form of a book. The first edition in Marathi came out in the year 1981.
Since then the translated versions of the original book in Gujrati and Hindi have also been published. These books have acted as a catalyst for the seeker of truth to come in closer contact with Mataji who is still actively contributing to the spiritual development of the seekers, who, by the grace of God, manage to reach her door steps, at Her Ashram in Miraj. Right from the first meeting with Mataji, the seeker experiences a feeling of joy, that emerges from a strong sense of home coming. The impact of even the first meeting is so strong that it leaves its mark behind. As Shrimati Sudha Dinkar Patil of Jalgaon says, "by mere special remembrance, thoughts, satsang and listening to the discourses of Mataji, one experiences and inexplicable inner bliss. Her thoughts compel a person to rise above all things and begin the eternal journey of searching the self, transforms the new into a family member from the very first moment. These words are not mere emotional expressions of one devotee with blind faith, but opinions voiced by the special thousands of earnest seekers who have been fortunate enough to seek refuge at Her holy feet. Interestingly, quite a large number of Her followers had come in contact with Her followers has had come in contact with Her due to the inspirations drawn from the Marathi and Hindi versions of this book.
Taking into account that there is a vast section of people within this country and outside, who do not understand, or cannot read any of the Indian languages and to ensure that this section is not deprived of the opportunity to know this great saint, the need for the English version of this book arose.
