Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830) established a unique and eternal path of spiritual endeavour for all aspirants desiring moksha or liberation. He prescribed the ultimate goal of attaining realization by imbibing the virtues of dharma, jnan, vairagya and bhakti-collectively called ekantik dharma. To integrate these four fundamental virtues, Bhagwan Swaminarayan clearly defined the components of spiritual sadhana in his teachings, compiled in the Vachanamrut.
This publication, Basic Concepts of Swaminarayan Satsang, published through the inspiration of Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj and Pragat Brahmaswarup Mahant Swami Maharaj, includes references from the Vachanamrut and teachings of Gunatitanand Swami, substantiated with lucid incidents that reveal the spirit of the subjects concerned. The sadhanas or spiritual endeavours described in this book do not deal with the rituals and practices in the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, but the fundamental elements necessary for internal understanding and realization to make the external practices more profound and fruitful.
Reading and reflecting upon every chapter will consolidate one's understanding and knowledge about the basic concepts of Swaminarayan Satsang and add momentum to imbibing these redemptory virtues.
This book is a translation of the Gujarati version called Satsang Samjan. It has 100 references from the Vachanamrut, 18 from Swamini Vato, 18 verses and 68 stories. The diacritic à has been used only in direct quotations from the Vachanamrut, Swamini Vato and verses. Elsewhere, including the glossary, no diacritics have been used.
We hope this small publication will be a beacon of inspiration to all devotees and aspirants on the path of spiritual enlightenment.
