It will be apparent at once that the larger part of this treatise is devoted to an attempt to awaken in the mind of the reader a compelling desire for a higher degree of mental efficiency. The reason for this arises from the research and experience of a unique Editorial Board, composed of editors, personnel men and experienced executives, which has brought home to all of them the unalterable conviction that the first and most important requisite in mental efficiency and achievement is an intense and enduring desire for it; a yearning so strong as to thrust aside life's trivialities which, by their very force of numbers, often block the pathway of those who wish to turn aside from the course of least resistance and make the most of their God-given mental powers, to assume command of their mental ship and remain captain to the journey's end.
The methods by which mental health and growth may be attained are many, ranging from the very simple to the complex. In the last analysis, however, they all seem to fit into the same pattern and accomplish similar if not equal results.
We assume that you are blessed with a desire for mental development, otherwise you would not be reading this book. Therefore, we shall proceed to outline a plan of mental growth and development which would, undoubtedly, have the complete approval of a majority of those who have developed mental efficiency to a high point of excellence.
A careful reading of this book will help you materially, but a thorough study of its precepts and the application of the courses of action suggested to your personal and business life will bring price-less rewards. And, finally, keep ever before you this cold, hard, irrefutable fact: In facing the problems of everyday life, the same difference exists in handling your affairs with mental efficiency or the lack of it that one would encounter in attacking a pile of wood with a well-tempered blade of perfect keenness, on the one hand, or an axe of the dull, blunt and rusty variety, on the other.
