Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie raised such righteous indignation in the Muslim World, that even those who had not heard about the book and its author wondered what had been written to arouse such indignation. It occurred to me then, if the manner of looking is jaundiced, all religious scriptures will appear in the same light. Every religion has a founder excepting Hinduism. But it was never claimed that the wisdom they propounded was brain-child of theirs. In fact, it was acknowledged that the knowledge was just revealed to them by God or whatever name one likes to mention. The same was said by Zarauthushtra, and the same is true about Moses when he was revealed the truth through the Ten Commandments in the mountain caves. Lord Jesus also heard the same divine voice. The same happened with Prophet Mohammad. It took 23 years for the various pieces containing the divine knowledge to be put together and then compiled as the Holy Koran. Lord Buddha attained this Spiritual Wisdom when he sat under the tree at Bodh Gaya. Guru Nanak also heard the divine voice. In case of Hinduism, which began with the Vedas, it is said that it came out of four mouths of Brahma, the Creator.
Having considered these factors, it occurred to me that since there is one Creator, and he communicated the Divine Wisdom to the Founder, Prophets and Messengers, here coud be no contradiction in the teachings, and the confusion in our own understanding of these noble religious scriptures. Having arrived at this conclusion, I began to study all major religions and found that my assumption was correct. All the religious scriptures could be termed as DIVINE WORDS AND VERSES and it was for us to discover their Unity, Eternity and Universality. If the outer garments were discarded, they propagated the same basic truths and emphasised the cardinal virtues which man must practise. In fact the understanding showed that if the name of the Founder was committed, and only the Teachings revealed, it would be indeed difficult to say who was the Founder.
In the book it has been repeatedly shown that religion merely shows a way of living which has to be different according to geographical and historical conditions. Histirography as an art was not so efficiently developed as it is today and our interpretation and understanding is bound to be blurred. The object of all religions is not to take a man to heaven, but to bring heavens into man. With the passage of time, every religion developed cracks and corrupt practices were observed. Man instead of being uplift was degraded. It is unconceivable that wars could take place in the name of religion. But this is what happened in every part of the world.
