Book Description
About the book

What a precious small book this is — a great gift item or bedside companion. It is one of the very few books that is handwritten, rather than spoken, by Osho, Each beautifully told story deals with an intensely human issue that everyone will have encountered in day-to-day life.

Osho’s commentaries invite readers to “play the game of life” with more awareness and humanity the next time such a situation occurs. The medium of parables means that reading these insights is a delight, and grasping them a real possibility.

Life becomes what we make it life is not given it has to be won. Ife is a constant creation of the self by the self it not a destiny it is creation.

Osho inspires millions of people worldwide in their individual search for joy fulfillment depth and silence all his talks address the question of how we can live each moment of our daily lives in awareness relaxation and totality.

About the Author

Osho defies categorization. His thousands of talks cover everything from the individual quest for meaning to the most urgent social and political issues facing society today. Osho’s books are not written but are transcribed from audio and video recordings of his extemporaneous talks to international audiences. As he puts it, “So remember: whatever I am saying neither is nor just for you... I am talking also for the future generations.”

Osho has been described by The Sunday Times in London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by American author Tom Robbins as “the most dangerous man since Jesus Christ.” Sunday Mid—Day (India) has selected Osho as one often people—along with Gandhi, Nehru and Buddha — who have changed the destiny of India.

About his own work Osho has said that he is helping to create the conditions for the birth of a new kind of human being. He often characterizes this new human being as “Zorba the Buddha”— capable both of enjoying the earthy pleasures of a Zorba the Greek and the silent serenity of a Gautama the Buddha.

Running like a thread through au aspects of Osho’s talks and meditations is a vision that encompasses both the timeless wisdom of all ages past and the highest potential of today’s (and tomorrow’s) science and technology.

Osho is known for his revolutionary contribution to the science of inner transformation, with an approach to meditation that acknowledges the accelerated pace of contemporary life. His unique OSHO Active Meditations are designed to first release the accumulated stresses of body and mind, so that it is then easier to take an experience of stillness and thought-free relaxation into daily life.

Introduction

What do I find when I look deeply into man? I find that man, too, is an earthen lamp But he is not just a lamp made of clay; in him there is also a flame of light that is constantly rising towards the sun. Only his body is made of earth, his soul is that very flame. But whoever forgets this continuously rising flame of light remains just clay. He stops rising upwards. And when there is no rising upwards there is no life.

My friend, look within. Get rid of all the smoke in your mind and see this flame of consciousness. Raise your vision beyond that which is mortal in you, and recognize the immortal. There is nothing more precious than recognizing this, because with this recognition the animal in you will die and godliness will be born.

Preface

A parable is a way of saying things in an indirect way. Truth cannot be asserted directly. That is too violent, too aggressive, too male. Truth can only be said in a very indirect way. It can be hinted at, indicated. You cannot be convinced of the truth: you can only be persuaded.

And the master is one who is not going to convince you of the truth but who is going to seduce you into truth. Parables are very seductive. Even those who were not searching for any truth may be suddenly struck by a parable: something may become suddenly available to them.

People like stories. And the stories have a tendency to hang around your consciousness. It is difficult to forget them; it is very easy to remember them. They have a way of reaching to the deepest core of your being.
