Expression of Impressions is a profound and evocative collection of poetry that delves into the complexities of human experience, capturing the beauty, pain, and resilience that define our lives. Awarded the Grant-in-aid Award 2023 by the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi, it weaves together a tapestry of the poignant and profound emotions and themes, from the intimate whispers of personal reflection to the intricacies of the soul through societal observation.
The poems "Celebrating Womb," "A Tribute to Menstruation" honour the intricate and often painful journey of womanhood and motherhood. The introspective musings of "Mirror" and the stark realism of "Human Bite" and "Sneer" confront the visceral realities of life. The collection navigates the labyrinth of love and identity with pieces like "Wedded Virgin" and "Angular Love," offering poignant insights into the struggles and triumphs of relationships. "Life-a Gazzetta" and "Trust Outgrowth" examine the uncertainties and betrayals that shape our existence, while "Modern Age: A Contradiction" and "Compulsively Humans" critique the paradoxes and progress of contemporary society.
The "Camera-Click Poetry" section reflects a unique perspective inspired by a photograph, blending visual imagery with poetic expression. This innovative approach brings a fresh dimension to the reader's experience, showcasing the inspiration embedded in the digital space.
Through "Fragments," "Life's a Universal Playground," and "Ray of Hope," the poet invites readers to find solace and inspiration in the everyday moments that define our journey. The imagery-rich "Night Serenade" and "Vrindavan Valentine" celebrate the ethereal beauty of nature and romance, while "Shutterbug in Frame" and "Happiness" capture fleeting moments of joy and introspection. The poems traverse a landscape of feelings, capturing moments that resonate with readers and invites them to delve into a world where every verse speaks volumes.

The title Expression of Impressions emerged not from a laborious process, but from a spontaneous flash of inspiration. Nudged by the urgency to submit for consideration of the award, and following the suggestion to separate the English poems from the Hindi collection, there was little time for contemplation. In retrospection, this title aptly encapsulates the essence of this collection. As every poet would attest, poems are expressions of influences, impacts, impressions in response to the myriad external stimuli of the world. This collection is a testament to those fleeting moments and profound experiences that shape our inner landscapes and find their voice in verse.
From childhood, various impressions inscribe themselves on the 'tabula rasa' of a poet's mind. Strangers, relationships, objects, and nature continually inspire the poet's heart. When these inspirations find a voice in poetry, they become universal; allowing readers to experience the same 'rasa' within their own contexts and situations. This collection aims to stir similar emotions in its readers, thereby fulfilling its purpose.
