Great thinkers like Karl Marx, Julian Huxley, Dr. Paul Kutz, Kahlil Gibran, J. Krishnamurti and others have revealed to us scientific and religious knowledge. This needs to be used to achieving unity of Man with the Universe-right approach against divisive forces which have been rearing their heads.
The slogan, "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity" needs to be replaced by "Personalism, Universalism and Futurism’: it being cohesive, comprehensive and easily understandable.
The book is presented in the form of Proceedings of a Seminar of the World Youth. Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are the subjects discussed because Man is required to follow them to achieve unity with the Universe.
These discussions lay stress on being action-oriented, having faith in Man and his potentiality, faith in his right place in the Universe and in future as destined by the Great Cosmic Force-the Omega point, the God as we may term it.
For the Man's leap into the 21st Century the approach is by means of symbiosis of science and religion, i.e. rational and scientific, through love, understanding and positive orientation.
Starting his career as Foundry Manager he held several high positions-Director, Nahan Foundry, M.D., National Instruments Factory; G.M., Foundry Forge Plant, Heavy Engineering Corporation, Ranchi-and retired as Chief Executive, Walchand Industries, Ltd., in 1982. He, thereafter, conducted business as engineering project consultant and held Directorships and advisory assignments in a few Engineering Companies till the middle of 1986 when he suffered a paralytic stroke that compelled him to discontinue active field-work. But he continues to write books and articles on 'Positive Living’.
In connection with his official assignments he has travelled extensively the world over-both non-Communist and Communist. The Connection Government honoured him- a Gold Medal and Ribbon-for promoting international understanding.
Founder of the 'Forum for Positive Living', he has conducted seminars on the subject including lectures thereon in India and abroad.
He has authored nearly a dozen books, including Management An Exercise in Positive Living and World Peace Through National Plans (Somaiyas), Project Evaluation ; The Call of Shivathar Ghat : The Present Management Ethos.
His latest book, My Encounter with Sages, Scientists and Pace-setters, is being readied for the press.
Dr. Joshi has studied various ideologies and systems of thought. He believes that a symbiosis of this total knowledge-both scientific and spiritual-has to be made for achieving the unity of man and his unity with the universe.
Great thinkers of present generation have expressed their pessimism about the future of man and the catastrophy that awaits him. A philosopher observed, 'Man has learnt how to fly in air like birds, how to swin in water like fish, but he has not learnt how to live on earth as a human being.' One is tempted to agree with this observation, when one looks around and witnesses the enormous wealth on one side and dire poverty and distress on the other. It appears that humanity has forgotten the warning of an English poet, who said, 'I’ll fares the rand ... where wealth ac-cumulates and man decays'. Our generation has to transmit to the next generation, our failures and their causes. Dr. Joshi's book is meant for the youth who after evaluation would plan their own strategy to face life and its problems in their right direction. Dr. Joshi has immense faith in the ability of the youth. He believes that the threatened annihilation of human race can be averted only through the efforts of the youth through right line. Dr.Joshi’s humble claim is to indicate the right line.
Before starting the work Dr. Sharma requested the participants to observe three minutes silence standing in memory of and as a tribute to the late Dr. Chattopadhyaya for his selfless and significant work for humanistic cause and for being primarily instrumental to the present meeting. This was done by the members with observance of pin drop silence and feelings surcharged with such high emotion that all singularly had the thought of the late Dr. Chattopadhyaya's presence and association in spirit, in the task which they had planned to undertake.
Dr. Sharma then addressed the group giving his approach and the manner in which he thought the efforts of the meet would serve as most fruitful. His speech is reproduced below:
Welcome to this gathering my dear colleagues and seekers of truth and right path. Ever since this meeting was decided, my mind has been all along busy on the aspect as to how to handle the complex issues and the various challenges that confront our humanity today. We have met here to clarify our ideas so that we can face the various problems arising out of these issues in life squarely. In this respect a certain frame and structure of the ideology, attitude, approach, stance and methodology can only bring us to some positive results. Otherwise we will be working at cross purposes and as a result there can be generation, however, of more heat only but no light at all which we certainly do not desire.
