The Maharshi, Bhagavan Sri Ramana, was drawn to Arunachala hill in his seventeenth year, A after a spiritually awakening death experience. For the rest of his life, till the body was shed fifty four years later, he never left this beloved hill. People from far and near came to his presence and were spiritually enriched.
His divine presence continues to be felt and his universal philosophy attracts an ever—growing following.
This book is a selection of his teachings arranged with beautiful photographs, and is intended to help the mind turn inward and abide in the deep Silence awaiting each of us.
Oh Arunachala! In these the picture of the universe is formed, has its stay, and is dissolved; this is the sublime truth. Thou art the inner Self, who dancest in the Heart as ‘I’. ‘Heart’ is Thy name, Oh Lord!
Sri Ramana Maharshi had immersed himself in the ocean of living emptiness, which is called Silence. He grew into a demonstration of Formlessness clothed in a physical form.
May the Moments of Silence with Sri Ramana Maharshi guide the reader on the pathless path of Meditation.
In 1911, the first Westerner ever to visit Sri Ramana Maharshi had a profound experience and made an equally profound observation: “I-Tor half an hour I looked into the Maharshi’s eyes, which never changed their expression of deep contemplation. I began to realize somewhat that the body is the Temple of the Holy Ghost. I could only feel his body was not the man, it was the instrument of God— merely a sitting motionless corpse from which God was radiating terrifically…”
“God radiating terrifically” is the experience of innumerable seekers who sought the Maharshi’s presence then and now. That Divine Presence continues to bring hope, solace, faith, inspiration, and genuine spiritual experience to people of all cultures and creeds. And if the mirror of our soul is not adequately clean to perfectly reflect that eternal Divine Presence, the Maharshi has also provided us with a simple, direct teaching to practice for opening our heart to the experience of the one Self.
In preparing this pictorial book, Bharati Mirchandani has exquisitely harmonized both these incomparable aspects of Sri Ramana Maharshi— his presence and his teachings. Together with portraits, which represent the many enchanting divine moods of the sage, scenes from the captivating environs of Arunachala, his blessed abode, have been interpolated to create a Work of unusual beauty and profundity This subtle art of Weaving together photos and quotations in a complementary manner delightfully brings home the Master’s message. I am very gratified that on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Sri Ramana Maharshi such an excellent publication can be offered to devotees and seekers of truth from around the World.
