The book Kavyatattvalokah mainly deals with the various major principles of literary criticism (Kavyasaastra) like Kavyalaksana (the definition of poetry), Sabdasakti (the powers of words), Kavyatma (The soul of poetry), Rasa (passion), Dhvani (the poetic essence), Guna (excellences), Riti (Style), Alankara etc. each principle of Indian theory has been compared with those of western theories critically and analytically. The author has supplemented with his own Karikas and Vrttis after a deep and thorough critical judgment. The book is unique of its kind in precise critical estimation, in clarity of presentation and in lucidity of expression.
Thus the book “Kavyatattvalokah” containing critical analysis of major principles of Kavyasastra (Rhetoric) will serve sufficiently to the inquisitive scholars engaged in the study and research of both eastern and western literary criticism.
Dr. Sugyan Kumar Mahanty, S/o Sri Murali Dhara Mahanty, was born in the village Dwarasuni in the District of Ganjam, Orissa, in 1968. He has an excellent & throughout first class academic carrier ranking top in the examinations of different level. He has been awarded Vidyavaridhi (Ph .D.) from Sampurananad Sanskrit University. He has also contribute to popularise Sanskrit throughout the country. He has eleven years’ experience of teaching Sanskrit Poetics at P.G. level. Now he is working as Asst. Prof. (Sahitya) in Rastriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University), Bhopal Campus. He has also directed and staged many classical Sanskrit Dramas in many parts of India. Five books and about 50 research articles and creative writings are to his credit. His books are:
