Born in Nanjangud, in Karnataka, Shrikant Murthy was educated in Mysore and Bangalore. After graduation, he went on to do his Masters in Sociology in the University of Bombay. Diploma in Community Development from the Golda Meir International Training, Centre, Haifa, Israel is his added qualification.
Beginning his career as a Probation Officer in the Bombay Children's Aid Society where he currently holds a senior position, Murthy wrote his first book - Stories Waiting to be told. It was published under the Bhavan's Book University Series in 2002. The book pertains to true stories of children in Remand Homes and Correctional Institutions. It received rave reviews and was admired by general readers of books in English and by the academics in the field of Child Welfare. The Last Hurrah vividly recounts a true, stirring saga of a mother and son. The writer's distinct character and style that were traceable in his maiden book have now manifested themselves clearly in this fictional biography. The author has amply demonstrated his capacity to feel the emotions of the characters, delve deep into the human psyche, listen to its echoes and tell the story with poignancy.
