Preface
My curiosity in astrology arose in the final year of my B. Tech at IIT Kanpur. Later in 1993, entry of planet Jupiter into the sign Virgo brought me to Delhi. Virgo being the rising sing in my horoscope I landed up in the evening astrology classes at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. This was the beginning of my serious learning of astrology. During my service in the different parts of the country, I came across a large number of horoscopes of friends, colleagues and even of strangers. In the beginning things were quite interesting, if there was an applause over a successful prediction, there was glum on failure of a prediction too. Sometimes helping people out of their problems even psychologically was a joy in itself. Then slowly I started realizing that majority of the people want to listen only good things. They would go on quizzing, till the time they would succeed in putting their good word in your mouth and felt happy for that moment. The queries were also of similar nature relating to family affairs, better job, promotion, money, more money, good children and so on. Notwithstanding the fact that astrology has to provide a satisfying answer for all these material questions, yet vexed with the repetition of these questions time and again, one day I asked myself, "Is this the only end which astrology is meant for?" In east and particularly in India all subjects of classical origin are aimed at happy living and blissful ending. Astrology being one of the oldest subjects could not be different. In the pages of this book I have tried to touch upon the cardinal theme of this vast body of knowledge.
Whether east or west almost all the ancient civilizations recorded the position of planets against the backdrop of fixed stars and the consequence thereof. But unfortunately astrology astrology for us today ends up with a horoscope on a piece of paper, actually forgetting the sky that is mapped in the horoscope, as if these two were two different things. Modern day life has become increasingly busy leaving no time to look up to the sky, even for a while. Sky remains too near yet too far.
Astrology is vast, volumes of literature is available on it. Whatever little I have gathered from its archives and learnt gazing the sky, I have tried to put across in a simple forthcoming manner. The book tries to narrate as to how the Sun, the Moon and other planets exercise their influence on flora and fauna, animate or inanimate on the earth. How is the cyclic order of celestial clock operating through the rotating planets and spiraling galaxies which is one of the primal forces in the universe.
People in East personify everything, their house, their hearth or a piece of stone kept in the temple. Much the same way there are legendary tales about planets, portraying them as living beings. Perhaps this is one of the most convenient ways to be in touch with them.
Attempt is made in this book to go along the astrological journey through the planets and get closer to the sky. To have a feel that the sky is always one hundred percent on purpose. It supports us unerringly provided we ask for it. The message is 'Let Us Learn Astrology', know the planets, love them, feel them, and meditate on them. Slowly they will begin to reciprocate and trickle down the solutions you have been longing for so long.
