Book Description
About the Book

The lines of our palms act as continuous printouts of our experiences, thoughts, and emotions. For over 4,000 years the Vedic science of morphology known as Samudrik Shastra, the "ocean of knowledge," has studied these printouts, developing an unparalleled ability to interpret them. Thought of as only a tool for predicting the future, palmistry is in fact widely used in India for personality assessment and counseling. By seeing ourselves reflected in our hands, we learn why we succeed in some relationships and not others, and what we can do to strengthen bonds with the most important people in our lives. With Love in the Palm of Your Hand, you can:

learn from your destiny line if you are receptive to someone entering your life

recognize when single islands on the Saturn, Sun, or Mercury mounts suggest a need to express emotions, develop a more forgiving nature, or be more open with others

know why you attract certain relationships, based on patterns on your heart line, allowing you to make better-informed choices

tune in to the degree of energy and stamina operating in your life, as reflected by your Mars galaxy

discover the degree to which you are receptive to your innate spirituality, as indicated by the development of your Sun line.

With hundreds of examples of actual palm prints that allow you to become familiar with different personality types, and an inked acetate pad that you can use to print and read your own palms or those of a friend or loved one, Love in the Palm of Your Hand is your key to enriching the most important relationships in your life.

About the Author

Born in 1941 in Uttar Pradesh, India, Ghanshyam Singh Birla cofounded the Montreal-based National Research Institute for Self-Understanding in 1972. Dr. Birla teaches, consults, and writes on a variety of subjects including astrology, palmistry, gem, mantra, magnet, and cosmic ray therapy. In 1996 he received an Honorary Ph.D. from the Council of Alternative Systems of Medicine, Calcutta, India, in recognition of his ongoing work to promote alternative therapies. Love in the Palm of Your Hand is Dr. Birla's first book.

We all recognize that the first and foremost requirement for happiness is love-human and divine. But what is the nature of love? Where do we find it? How may we nurture it? And can it be repaired, if broken?

The ancient rishis of India confirmed, through thousands of years of empirical observation, that every aspect of human life-physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual-is reflected in the lines and signs of the hands. However, the features of the hand, unlike our skin or eye color, are not fixed genetically. As we see in upcoming chapters, the hands are able to signal possible positive events in our lives as well as provide warnings about negative tendencies that may lead to difficulty. Over centuries, palmistry has been used as a means of counseling and as a tool in the acquisition of self-knowledge. With understanding and self-awareness comes the capability to exercise our will to learn from past mistakes and, by resolving them now, alter tendencies that may lead to future difficulty. We can learn to use the study of palmistry, then, as our guide to developing loving relationships.

This book was written in response to the growing needs of many clients, friends, and students over the past three decades of my practice. The search for love and the mending of fractured relationships is of primary concern to virtually everyone. With the inspiration, encouragement, and support of my family and friends, it is now my privilege to offer the reader this guide to building successful human relationships.

The information presented here is based on actual lifelong practice and research. Primarily concerned with how to discover love and nurture it, this book provides an overview of palmistry, as well as explanatory hand prints, illustrations, and case histories. A detailed study of the heart line in relation to the other lines and signs of the hand allows us to find our own particular configuration, and hence our own approach to love in all its aspects.

It is my heartfelt wish that you are inspired to develop deep and loving relation-ships through the help of this book. It is with this purpose that I offer you Love in the Palm of Your Hand.

Each one of us longs for deep and meaningful relationships. In a lifetime we have numerous opportunities to experience a union of souls: between business associates, friends, a parent and child, a husband and wife, a teacher and student, a guru and disciple. We come together-consciously or subconsciously-to help each other fulfill a purpose. We have a choice. Either we can enter into a relationship fully aware of the impact the union is likely to have on us, or we can enter into one oblivious to what we may be about to set in motion.

What Do We Mean by a Loving Relationship? In Sanskrit, the language of the Vedas, the term that best approximates "relation-ship" is sambandh, which derives from sam, meaning whole, and banclh, meaning bound. Within this word lies a paradox. In order to be whole, free, fully realized beings we must choose to be bound-to be connected-whether to yourself or to another. And these bonds, these connections, allow us to move forward in freedom. This binding force permeates the entire universe. It exists in every atom of creation. The Moon is bound to the Earth, just as the Earth is bound to the Sun; so also protons, electrons, and neutrons are bound together to form atoms. Therefore, the binding force exists in each one of us-in the very fabric of our physical body. This universal interconnectedness was understood by the ancient rishis (sages) of India, who developed a system of interpreting the features of the human body, one branch of which was palmistry.
