Allow me to step into the light, to be more than just words on these pages: I am Prakash Rohera, and over the past 26 years, I've been a corporate trainer and executive coach. Prior to that, I worked with Citibank, Bank of America and HCL Ltd. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to meet over 200,000 different participants, through 3500 plus sessions, from 160 plus organisations, across 26 countries. Each of these incredible individuals have inspired and motivated me as I learned of their life journeys-their opportunities and their challenges as they navigated and figured out their careers, their families, themselves and essentially this wonderful thing called 'life'.
With the pandemic pushing us all to reimagine our realities, I felt it was time to pen down their stories and the wisdom they held within. I yearned to share the practical tools and techniques that have resonated with countless workshop participants over the years.
And so, this book was born-a labour of love and a tribute to those whose paths have intersected with mine. It's a window into the transformative journeys of individuals who've traversed the labyrinth of life, each carrying lessons that light the way for others.
As I often say, "One doesn't need to change the world; all one needs to do is change our world."
Life... life is what we are given. What we become in life is what we make out of that life. As children, we were told, 'It is your life. Do something with it. Don't waste it.' Today, as adults ourselves, we now know what they meant, plus there is the realisation that we have just this one life, and we have to give it our all. Hence this book, One Life One Chance!
The title of this book should also be one's mission in life. We are aware of product and service branding; how about rebranding our life's purpose? Add zeal to life, feel the excitement, paint a new picture, write it and scream it-One Life One Chance.
The meaning is clear, the objective is clear, the essence is simply stated-I have one life to live, let me maximise it. We're all blessed with tremendous potential. Why not be the people who know how to use and benefit from it? It is during this introspection that we ask ourselves questions like, 'What is holding me back? What are my fears? Are there any chains binding me? Am I a victim of not believing in myself enough?'
What does the 'One Life One Chance' way of living mean? It means being grateful for the life we have, owning and crafting our days and feeling the energy of living. It means when people ask you how's life, responding with words like 'beautiful', 'inspiring', 'fun', rather than 'it's okay', kat rahi hai (it's moving along), or pata nahi (I do not know). It means maximising the incredible potential that each of us have.
Now while this is the end goal, I will acknowledge that getting to this way of living is not easy. All of us have doubts, obligations, fears, regrets and insecurities that tend to get in the way. We all have days when we feel inspired and want to live our life to the full, and days when we clearly do not feel that way. And that's alright. The goal of this book is to give you a few tools to increase the frequency of those inspired days and minimise the others.
