The book contains in simple and lucid style the essentials of astrology and how the astrological principles influence the character and personality. The book contains numerous examples which explain how astrology acts and governs our character and lives. A unique feature is a chapter on the Cosmic Man- Kalpurusha and another on astrology and sex, explaining how the location of planets heightens one's sexuality. The book also contains all the basic features of astrology-the signs, houses, planets and nakshatras and also explains how the various periods or dashas can be worked out. The Indian and Western Systems are explained so that readers in India and Abroad can both profit by it.

The book is much more than an exposition based on the solar signs, an easy reference book and also a guide to astrology. This is a book which should have a place in every household.

The need for a general book on astrology which would be useful for the lay man and also for the advanced student or practitioner was brought home to me during a casual survey of the books available in the market. Many of these books published in the west were admirable efforts in their own way but were based on the movable or tropical zodiac or else were written only on the basis of the Sun sign, that is the sign occupied by the Sun. As I have also explained in this book, the Sun sign is only one of the several important influences that bear on one's nativity. The Moon sign is equally important and also the house occupied by the Sun or Moon. And the house positions of the other planets, the signs they occupy and their mutual relationship all play their part in forming one's character and destiny in life. The directions or dashas give an idea of when a particular event will manifest itself. Western scholars are able to draw some conclusions on the basis of aspects and sometimes also from the progressed horoscope.
