Trekking is a wonderful activity in which adventure, nature, history, personality development, leadership qualities etc. get very nicely blended. Achievements, experiences, and immense pleasure are very important aspects of a trekker. Co-operation, presence of mind, self reliance, self confidence, attitude of accepting new challenges get developed over a period of time.

Another important thing is some treat it as a sports, but there is no competition in trekking. Sahyadri is a gift of nature. Western ghats & west coast are very thrilling. The natural & cultural heritage of Maharashtra are unparallel. The biodiversity of Maharashtra is mainly concentrated in Sahyadri & Satpuda mountain ranges. Number of rock cut caves, temples, forts, waterfalls, pockets of forests, superb beaches is a real treasure, which is within are reach.

Konkan, Sahyadri and it's offshoots welcome one and all to share it's treasures. In Marathi there are 'N' number of books available. But in English there is hardly anything.

The tremendous efforts taken by Shri. Harshal Ravindra Mahajan in compiling available information are very excellent. This is well supplemented by information bytes, Do's & Dont's, check lists, etc. which has increased the importance of this book.

A trekker can be alone or in a group, it is very likely that he or she may face some health problems or minor accidents, relevent information is also included in this book.

Each of the topic & subtopic will require a voluminous book. But compilation of tremendous information available and putting it in a nutshell is a very difficult job. The writer & his team are successful in doing this difficult job very easy.

I hope that this small effort will prove to be a useful and informative companion to trekkers, nature lovers & fort lovers.
