The present book is the collection of research papers on the subject of Sanskrit Linguistics presented by me in various conferences, seminars and published in various research journals from time to time over a period of about 50 years of my active academic career. These papers were critically discussed by scholars and important suggestions coming during the course of discussion have been incorporated in these papers.
In the Vedic period, a galaxy of linguists had flourished. Yäska was a great etymologist who has mentioned in his Nirukta the names of various schools of thought such as Nairuktas, Vaiyākaraņas, Aitihāsikas who delved upon the etymology of words from various points of views. Prätiśākhyas and Šikşās dealt with phonetics of Vedic sounds. There were various schools of grammarians and the names of several celebrated grammarians have been mentioned by Yaska quoting their views with honour.
The papers written in the light of above tradition and the modern theories, contained herein, represent various aspects of Sanskrit Linguistics and I hope my effort will be rewarded by the interest of esteemed scholars as well as new researchers.
