Shree Hirabhai Thakkar, after his 38 years of Government service in the Revenue Department in India, retired as a Deputy Collector in Gujarat Administrative Service (G.A.S.) in August 1976 at the age of 58.
He was the first president of the Theosophical Society of Gandhinagar (capital of Gujarat in India). He is a scholar in Bhagwad Geeta and Vedant.
He has delivered numerous lectures on Geeta, Bhagwatam, Ramayana and Upanishads in many cities, towns and villages of the states of Gujarat, Saurashtra and Maharashtra during his service and also after retirement.
Since 1985, he has made extensive tours in the United States of America and delivered lectures in English, Hindi and Gujarati in Rochester N.Y., New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San-Jose, Oakland, San- Fransisco in California, Releigh-Winston, Charlotte in North Carolina, Spartanburg in South Carolina, Youngstown in Ohio, Harrisburg-Pittsburg in Pensylvania, Boulder city and Las Vegas in Nevada and Miami Tempa, Pensicola in Florida. Mobil in Alabama, Hartford (Canaticut), Dartmouth (Mass), Atlanta (Georgia), Torento (Canada), Silver Spring (MD), Augasta (Georgia), Detroit (Missigan), Portland (Dragon), Huston, Dallas (Texas), Puppekshi (N.Y.).
He has also delivered lectures in London, Wembly, Lister and Coventry in England.
He visited South Africa and delivered lectures in the cities of Durban, Tongat, Stangar, Verlum, Reservoir Hills, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Petermeritsburg, East London, Uton Hague and Port Elizabeth (Transwal), Benoni Lenesia. Lodium, Bethal, Brito, Roshni, Nairobi (Kenya).
He has also visited Mauritius for delivering lectures in Divine Life Society, University and other institutions.
His contributions in Indian philosophy are the books : (1) Theory of Karma, (2) Vedant Vichar, (3) Mrutyunun Mahatmya, (4) Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta : Import - Karma Yog, Chapter 1 to 6, (5) Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta : Import - Bhakti Yog, Chapter 7 to 12, (6) Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta : Import - Gnan Yog, Chapter 13 to 18, (7) Geeta Navneet. These books cover and give insight to understand Bhagwad Geeta and day-to-day problems of life.
In 1977, Shri Hirabhai wrote this book 'Theory of Karma' originally in simple and lucid Gujarati language. To benefit the bigger audience this book is now translated into English, Hindi, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu languages, which are the free translations of his Gujarati book and also covering his oral lectures given in American States.
