Understanding Sanatan Dharma (Revealing the Divine Science of Hindu Religion)
About the Book

In spite of all the advances in the modern sciences mankind is still grappling with multitude of problems. In fact with all the technological advances the problems faced by mankind have only increased. This is because mankind has not been able to understand its own existence. Since thousands of years mankind has digressed from the real path.

This path is now revealed in this book in two parts. Part I of this book exclusively deals with understanding our existence on this earth. This is also Self Realization, Atma Gyan or knowledge of the self.

Within this existence and facing numerous problems then what is that one Formula using which an individual can lead a happy, prosperous and fulfilled life? This has been detailed in Part II of this book.

This is also the path towards Supreme Intelligence. This is also the path to Moksha. This is the Sanatan Dharma or The Way of Life for Everyone and Forever.

Introduction

Sanatan Dharma and philosophy is perhaps the most misunderstood of all religions in the world. It has been described by many people in a variety of manners. Some people describe the Hindu religion as the texts of Ramayana or Bhagwat Gita, some describe it as history of Rama & Krishna and other deities, some understand it as Tantra, and some people would describe it as Yoga or Ayurveda. Yet others consider it as all of the above, some observe it as a set of rituals, some believe that all these rituals were created by ancient Indian tribes. Some limit their vision of Hindu religion to only a particular text. Some say that the religion has been created out of fear. Some people describe it as a way to make money created by our ancestors. We can go on with such numerous descriptions of what people say with their understanding. Some researchers because of lack of complete understanding describe it as a fraud, yet some others who consider caste system to be the basis of Hindu religion condemn it completely and think that Hindu religion is just a caste division. Some sell it as astrology and associated documentation.

Wikipedia describes Hindu religion as follows: "Hinduism is the predominant religion of the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism includes Shaivism, Vaishnavism and Srauta among numerous other traditions. Among other practices and philosophies, Hinduism includes a wide spectrum of laws and prescriptions of 'daily morality' based on karma, disarma, and societal norms. Hinduism is a conglomeration of distinct intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid common _set of beliefs.

Hinduism is formed of diverse traditions and has no single founder. Among its direct roots is the historical Vedic religion offsets Age India cinch as such, Hinduism is often called the oldest living religion. (Note: I am using the words Hindu Religion because the word 'Hindu' is more popular. The correct words however would be `Sanatan Dharma.' The word 'Hindu' in fact was introduced to the vocabulary only a few thousand years back. 'the beg 550g of the Hindu religion however is not known and it is not known how old it is.)

Or the 'oldest living major religion' in the world. One orthodox classification of Hindu texts is to divide into Sruti (revealed) and Smriti (remembered) texts. These texts discuss theology, philosophy mythology rituals and tempk building among other topics. Major scriptures include the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Mahabbarata, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and Agamas."

Most of contemporary literature on Hindu religion by various Indian and Western authors concentrate on proving the ancient Indian texts as myths and stories. Western authors especially have been able to go only to the shallow depths of the Hindu religion and have not discovered the essence of it. Most Indian authors only follow the footsteps of their western counterparts and end up either describing a particular text or again getting lost in the mythical descriptions and limit themselves only to the history and rituals. Many authors try to give various interpretations and meanings to the texts again distorting the main content and spirit. Massy authors describe Hindu religion in symbolism getting farther away from the real philosophy.

Most websites describe Hindu religion by broadly defining God as one - Brahma, then describing various texts such as Ramayana, Gita etc., then describing rituals, then describing various deities and Gods, then describing pooja articles, then describing ahimsa, karma, truth, moksha, reincarnation, soul, mays, Brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas, shudras, vedas, upnishads, astrology, yoga, and so on without defining any connection among these. The subject heads have been defined as separate doctrines without understanding the philosophy and practical utility behind and what connects all the thoughts and philosophies.

All these texts and websites indicate a fairly befuddled state of minds of people about the Hindu religion. There is no relationship or connection between the various concepts. The confusion has been further aggravated with the spate of Indian motion pictures depicting the religion in the most misunderstood form with characters suffering and crying before the statues of gods and gods in the culmination dropping a flower or a garland on the character and thus blessing. Several other motion pictures have completely denigrated the Hindu philosophy by presenting it to the masses in the most despicable manner and showing most seers, saints and gods as crooks. Gullible masses generally believe that what is shown on the big screen is the ultimate truth and have therefore formed adverse opinions believing in what is shown on the screen and are generally moving away from the ethos of the religion.

Over thousands of years great many rituals such as killing of animals, drinking of wine, exploitation of sixteen year old girls etc. were introduced as part of Hindu religion while the essence of Hindu religion says that all these are prohibited and these are distorted forms of what has actually been said in ancient Hindu texts. It has dearly been described in the 11th chapter,5th stanza, 13th Sloka of Shrimad Bhagwat Purana.
