Kalpatharu Research Academy, Bangalore, is presenting to the scholarly world another volume of great Indological interest and value, Rgveda Darsana, Volume Six. It continues with the portion of Rigvedic corpus dealing with the hymns to Vishnu (Vishnu Suktani, Part two). The project envisages the presentation of the traditional interpretation of Rgveda. This will be followed by volumes dealing with Surya (Saura Suktani).
The Academy wishes to place on record the great service that is being rendered by Vidyalankara, Sastra Chudamani, Sangitakalaratna, Vedantanidhi, Prof. S.K. Ramachandra Rao, who has been authoring all the volumes of the Academy. We thank him sincerely for acceding to our request, despite his age and other commitments.
The Academy also acknowledges the blessings showered on it by its venerable patron His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji, the Jagdguru Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, and the gracious interest taken by Shri V.R. Gowrishankar who is the Administrator of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. The Academy places on record the generous financial assistance received from the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi and also from the Ministry of Education, Govt. of Karnataka. And also we thank M/s. Omkar Offset Printers for producing the book expeditiously and efficiently.
We are happy and proud that the Kalpatharu Research Academy has been successfully rendering commendable service to the cause of Indological publications of value, ever since its inception in 1981. The Publications have grown out of intensive research and devotion to the cause of Indian culture. The volumes have uniformly been well received by the world of scholars. And this has been gratifying.
This is the second part of Vishnu Süktani, which constitutes the fifth, sixth and seventh volumes of Rgveda Darsana. Out of the forty-five mantras devoted to Vishnu in the Rigvedic corpus, eighteen were covered in volume Five, and another twelve in the present volume, volume Six. The remaining mantras will be taken up in the subsequent volume. We have thought it important to present authentic and ancient texts relating to Vedic study like Saunaka's Rgvidhāna and Anukramanis. These are included in the volumes on Rgveda Darsana in the form of Appendices.
I am grateful to Shri Daivajna K.N. Somayaji, Director of Kalpatharu Research Academy, for providing this wonderful opportunity for me to concentrate on Rgveda in the evening of my life. I also acknowledge the interest evinced in the work by the Jagadguru of Sringeri Sarada Peetham, who is the chief patron of the Academy, and the Administrator of the Peetham Sri V.R. Gowrishankar. 1 thank my friends Sri Venkatesh Babu and Nagendra of the Omkar Offset Printers, for the courtesy and co-operation extended during the production of this volume.
