Hall, at the age of 12 11er moment of joy was, when Dr. Homi Bhaba, late scientist after hearing her play-came up to her and said, "To-day I beard beautiful music" She also bad a flair for painting and experimented with colours. Along with paintings she also wrote verses and sometimes composed tunes for them.

Foreword
Blessed are they who are capable of forming mental images of things not actually present. The perception of an image, the grasp of us implications, and the control, which are necessary to a successful expression, may vary in vividness and strength, but this is a difference of degree in imagination, not in kind. That the author of this volume of poems and paintings bas imagination is certain, but as to where it fatefully affects an individual reader will be discovered only through an actual, response to the material contained in the volume.

In her paintings Arnaz Samaddar has found a chance to express her strong craving for life. This is a happiness which only those who create know, and of course paintings have no need for words at all. There is, behind these pictorial images, intensity. The more significant of the images suggest a personality which is emotional, restless, and complex. Thus, whether or not you like them you will not be indifferent to them.

What of the poems? Men of letters and especially poets, have often been associated with music, for the words they penned were often set to tunes. Some of them, indeed, composed the tunes themselves. While this is no longer true, and so to poetry's detriment, it is not so in the case of this poet, for she is a painist herself. No wonder, whatever, her theme she infuses her best line with inner music. It is of course a fact that poetry is not an art that develops suddenly, but for this poet it is an invaluable gift which you will discover as you read and enjoy her poems.

Preface
It was just four years ago that my life was full of sadness and despair I lost both my parents in 1988 and life seemed to have become unbearable owing to many circumstances. That is when I guess-'God lends a hand when you least expect it - I started painting seriously-I could somehow, put my feelings in my paintings as well as my poems. It become a passion.

I come from a Parsee family of musicians and judges and my mother was a violinist of fine calibre. I have been writing poems over a long period of time. Having observed things around me from early childhood, I had this urge to try and capture, that time or place, -some moments, that left a mark on my memory. So I started writing and surprisingly could express my feelings poetically, lyrically.

Since the age of 4-1/2 1 was already learning the piano-so, melody, rhythm and harmony in music helped me with my poems. As I loved painting, that too, I developed gradually. Early childhood was fun and laughter and I guess that was the way God meant humans to live-and that was the way I thought life will be; but later years took on a different scene. I saw conflict, disorder, injustice chaos-and found a little love, hence whatever I felt must have been reflected in my work. One must remember a poet uses his or her imagination too, like a painter.

I find so much of link, in poetry, art, and music, that having art at my disposal, I found I could link them with some of my poems. Of course, the poems I bave written can stand by themselves-but, maybe, some of the paintings bring out the essence of the poems more poignantly. It is for my reader to enjoy. Here, I would like to mention about my paintings.

I have done most of the paintings with my fingers. I do paint with brushes, but the satisfaction I derive from direct contact with my work makes me feel I can express feelings better Only a few paintings in this book have been done by brush work.
