The response to the first edition was gratifying. In the process of revision, I utilized the answers given to similar questions raised in the scripture classes in Bangalore since 2001. Some readers felt that the ideas connected with progress should be handled in greater detail.
Since many of the readers had a background in technology, they wanted some information about the role of technology in dealing with issues such as eradication of poverty at a physical level which appear occasionally in the media. I wanted to use this opportunity to alert the readers to the widespread dangers of growing food with petro-based chemicals, dubbed as the green revolution. There is extensive literature on these widespread dangers available on the web. Still both the semi-literate farmers in India and the literate farmers in USA are unable to withstand the propaganda of the chemical fertilizer companies often subsidized by govt. The focus here is on helping the aspiring youth in self- development and the integral development of the community.
Part IV dealing with 'Progress' is entirely revised in this edition. Facts and figures connected to economics, specially on the history of progress of countries is the highlight of this edition. Parts I to III are reatined without any revision.
The answers to the questions in the part IV dealing with 'progress' are not as brief as the answers to other questions.
I thank Dr. Nalini Kutty for carefully reading an earlier version of the book (2007) and suggesting revisions. I am also thankful to the staff of SAKSHI for preparing the sketches, organizing the contents and the feedback on the issues discussed here.
