We do not have a written history of Yoga but the evolution of yoga can be traced to the Vedic period wherein the word yoga occurs (Rg. V.I.V. 3). Later, in the period of the Aranyaka Brahmanas, a clear cut mention of yoga as a disciple is not available. However, a well defined approach to yoga as an established discipline is amply evident in the Upanisadic period. Later, in the Sutra period Yoga Sutra text was composed by Sage Patanjali. After that, there is an absence of such literature dedicated totally to yoga. It is only in the 9th to 15th century A.D that Guru Goraksanath wrote some books on Hatha Yoga like the Goraksa Paddhati, Siddhasiddhanta Paddhati etc. followed by Swatmaram’s Hatha Pradipika. In 19th and 20th century respectively, the contribution of yoga in colloquial languages enhanced the information and finally after Swami Vivekananda, a new era of Scientific yoga was started by Swami Kuvalayananda and Yogendra, Krishnamacharya, BKS Iyengar and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois which still continues.
Shri O.P. Tiwari was initiated in the field of Yoga by his Guru Swami Kuvalayananda. He was amongst the first few students of Swamiji to have completed his Yoga Pravishtha in the Year 1957. Since then he has been selflessly devoted to the cause of Yoga.
