Goddess Lakshmi in Hinduism is the provider of eternal luxuries and success in spiritual and material actions. The Lakshmi idol in your home or Puja temple should be placed in the north or northeast direction. What this means is, the goddess will face south when placed in the North, while the devotee will face North when they worship Devi Lakshmi. Thus, per Vastu's prescriptions, you can keep a Lakshmi idol facing the South.
