The world is driven to unhappiness and frustration because it is driven by a sequence of desires. People resort to any means to fulfill their wishes. This could involve taking recourse to lying, harming others or damaging the environment. All religions have, therefore, condemned desire as the root cause of unhappiness.
The state of true liberation comes when one performs all duties and obligations without bothering about the result. The way to achieve this state is through learning. "Savidyayavimuktye", true learning, which liberates us from desire, craving, attachment and fear.
In the Gurukul of Sandipani, both Krishna and Sudama had to share tasks. They lived a life that laid importance of duty rather than the fruits of action. Naturally the concept-developed minds in which there was no place for desire. It also ensured that desire did not slide to the subconscious domain.
