Manuscript Painting of Assam
Manuscript Painting of Assam
Description

The art of painting that flourished in Assam from 16th century onwards, with the rise of Neo-Vaisnavism under the great Vaisnava saint Sankaradeva, is not known widely to the art historians of the country. However, the paintings which are depicted as illustrations in old manuscripts have all the qualities ot occupy an important place in the art history of India.

The painter was known as Khanikar, who could also be a sculptor and engraver, a carpenter, a maker of earthen images. Khanikars were a professional group. Muslim artisans and craftsmen were included in Khanikar Khel or the guild of artisans.

Testimonials
Kailash Raj’s art, as always, is marvelous. We are so grateful to you for allowing your team to do these special canvases for us. Rarely do we see this caliber of art in modern times. Kailash Ji has taken the Swaminaryan monks’ suggestions to heart and executed each one with accuracy and a spiritual touch.
