This book will be of use both to the general reader and to the serious student of astrology. We have attempted to provide complete and systematised information drawn from great works on the effects of the Janma Rasi (the Moon Sign) and the Janma Lagna(the Ascending Sign)as well as those of the Moon's House position. These three together constitute the basis of human personality.
I present this small handbook to those interested in the most elementary principles of the Science of Astrology giving but certain important and useful characteristics of the Janma Rasi and the Ascending Sign. The effects of the House occupied by the Moon have also been included. These three sections relating to the Sign occupied by the Moon, the House occupied by the Moon and the Sign ascending at birth will be found quite interesting as well as highly educative to the readers. The chapter on Lunar Horoscope will throw light on the prospect of changes to take place at certain intervals in the course of one's life as a result of the continuous movements of the planets around the Zodiac. I am quite aware of the limitations of the Lunar Horoscope otherwise called 'Gocharam' or 'Transit System' without the aid of the Horoscope as a whole which alone throws light on the entire range and possibilities of a person. The Chapters relating to the Nakshatra Thyajya, the Thithi Thyajya, the Vara Thyajya and Rasi Thyajya will be found quite useful for choosing auspicious times for secular as well as religious functions. Hindu Astrology lays special emphasis on the Amritha Ghatikas of Nakshatras for taking medicine as that can effect quick recovery from any illness. The chapter devoted to a study of the time of recovery from an illness on the basis of the Stellar Quarters will be found quite useful and the information will be found to be a rare and precious one.
I have included Rahu and Kethu too in the list of either the Benefics or the Malefics or the Yoga Karakas or Death Inflictors as the case may be with reference to each Lagnam assigning Rulership over Kumbha to Rahu and Rulership over Meenam to Kethu. From my study of Sankethanidhi' and Uttarakalamritha' I find Rahu as the Ruler of Kumbha and Kethu as the Ruler of Meenam, which are very well borne out by my personal experience of persons.
HE revolution of the Earth round the Sun, the rotation of the Earth on its axis and the revolution of the Moon round the Earth, are the three primary astronomical phenomena from which are derived the principles of the Science of Astrology. The revolution of the Earth round the Sun completed in one year furnishes our Earth with its Zodiac. The Zodiac is a belt of the Heavens in the neighbourhood of the Celestial Equator extending 8 Degrees on either side of the ecliptic, the Sun's annual path through the Heavens; it is really the path of the Earth round the Sun.
The Zodiac is a symbol of the soul, the instrument of God. The mind, feelings and emotions are largely governed by the Zodiac.
The revolution of the Moon round the Earth is per formed in one month measured from New Moon to New Moon. The rotation of the Earth on its axis is done in one day of 24 hours.
The Lagnam is a point in the ecliptic which is inclined to the Equator. The Lagnam based on Latitude and Longitude has a great deal to do with shaping the fortunes of its native. Time of birth is represented by Lagnam, the Ascending Sign. Places with a difference of either Longitude or Latitude or both cannot have the same Lagnam for the same time. The Lagnam is determined from time and space.
