Krishnaleela Flower Mandala

Krishnaleela Flower Mandala

Krishnaleela Flower Mandala

The Sanskrt word ‘leela’ translates to ‘a playful pursuit’. It has strong romantic connotations, of a game that is otherworldly and ethereal and uplifting. Krishnaleela refers to the behavioural divinity of Lord Krishna. The painting that you see on this page captures the mood of Krishnaleela with its generous use of bright earthy tones and overt floral motifs.

At the pistil of a gigantic flower stands the Lord Krishna. Keeping Him company is His beloved Radha. He is clad in a yellow dhoti, while She is in a more feminine pink-coloured number. Bejewelled silver adornments and curly black tresses, from which emerges on Krishna’s hair a scarlet peacock feather. Poised within a star-shaped aureole, the lovers look into each other’s eyes with great harmony and tenderness.

Each of the twelve solid-coloured petals, painted a vivid orange, bears within its soft folds a milkmaid (gopi). The Vrindavan milkmaids are known to this day for their untramelled, unconditional love for Lord Krishna. These epitomes of bhakti have donned the signature colour of their Lord (peet or yellow) and are dancing to His music, the dynamism of their bodies conveyed by the raised arms.

Delicate shoots of bamboo flank this flower-shaped mandala. On each corner of the composition are motifs in green and carmine, which further define the simple yet statement colour palette of the border.

Thank you very much for the Shri Yantra with Navaratna which has arrived here safely. I noticed that you seem to have had some difficulty in posting it so thank you...Posting anything these days is difficult because the ordinary postal services are either closed or functioning weakly.   I wish the best to Exotic India which is an excellent company...
