On the pinnacle of mountains, the warring aspect of goddess Parvati, Devi Durga appears in a powerful form, as Jaya- victory incarnate. Devi Durga holds a Khadag (sword) for severing the heads of demons, a Khappar for collecting their blood, a Pataka or flag of victory, and a Damru or drum for announcing her arrival and victory. With the sun as her halo and a mighty tiger as her mount, Devi assures the heart of the victory of good over evil.
