Q1. Which city is famous for Chikankari sarees?

To take it at face value, chikankari refers to any type of needlework. Some of the earliest examples of this method of decorating textiles can be found in what is now Lucknow but was once the Nawabs' capital. Today, Lucknow is the center of the chikankari industry, and the resulting variety is known as Lucknawi chikan. Needles and raw thread are used to meticulously embroider white flower motifs in the ancient Chikankari embroidery technique. Even though it had its start in India, chikankari soon became a worldwide craze.

Noor Jaha, the Mughal Queen who was married to Emperor Jehangir, was the one who first displayed the exquisite piece of handmade art. Chikankari was first mentioned in the early works of the 3rd century BC by Megasthenes, a well-known Greek traveler. In his writings, Megasthenes described the exquisite beauty of intricate floral motifs and patterns on cloths that were created using chikankari work. Chikankari has been practiced ever since.
