History is a subject of immense importance. It is often said that history repeats itself. It means that we need to learn important lessons from history to avoid making mistakes and learn from them in the future. Today, when we celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the 75 years of Indian Independence, there seems to be a good reason to write the History of Modern India with a comprehensive analysis of the important events, personalities and moments for the appreciation of the young audience that needs to understand the contributions made by several popular and many more unknown personalities who sacrificed their lives for a brighter and better future. This book is a one-stop solution for all the Civil services aspirants and also for the general history readers. While writing this book, my endeavour has been to cater to the needs of not just Civil Services but also also for a wider audience, having keen interest to understand the course of history-during the times from the coming of the Europeans and going up to the mid 1970. I welcome suggestions/feedback from the readers and hope that the book benefits the readers in all possible manner.
