It is my privilege to present to the discerning readers the proceedings of the National Seminar organized by the Asiatic Society to commemorate the birth centenary of Professor Nirmal Kumar Bose, a staunch nationalist and a friend of the underprivileged.
Professor Bose will be remembered by posterity as a dedicated teacher, a great anthropologist and a true Gandhian Personally speaking, I had the opportunity of meeting him on several occasions when he visited our residence at Kidderpore and found in him the personification of the concept "plain living and high thinking".
I would like to take this opportunity to record our appreciation of the papers presented by the participants that had thrown new light on the different facets of the colourfu personality of Professor Bose through their papers.
I am sure that this monograph on Professor Nirmal Kuma Bose would have an ennobling and lasting influence on the future generation.
