The Spiritual Guide: Perspectives and Traditions explores the nature and role of the spiritual teacher and the master-student relationship in the Hindu, Taoist, Jewish, Graeco-Roman, Buddhist, Christian, Sufi, and Sikh traditions.
The work has been divided into two volumes. For those inter- ested in reading about some traditions in preference to others, each chapter may be read as a standalone, and the chapters may be read in any sequence, without impact on comprehension of the overall topic. The introduction presenting the overall goal and context of the work is included at the beginning of both the volumes. Chapters have been placed in rough chronological order - rough because the earliest traditions have their roots in prehistory, making it impossible to pin down their beginning point. It may be noted, moreover, that since the eight chapters have been prepared by diverse contributors, there should be no expectation of one single voice or style running through the book.
Science of the Soul Research Centre (SSRC) publishes a vari- ety of works on the mystical dimensions of world religions. Pre- paring these publications is an inspiring experience for everyone involved as we discover the unity within diversity that is the very heart of mystical experience. It is with great pleasure that we now add The Spiritual Guide: Perspectives & Traditions to this category of our publications. As publishers it is our hope that readers will find as much inspiration from reading about these rich traditions as the team who prepared the book discovered in researching and writing about them.
